OVERSEAS QUARTER, HAMBURG
NEW MULTIFUNCTIONAL QUARTER IN THE CENTRE OF THE HAFENCITY
THE PROJECT AND ITS REQUIREMENTS
The Overseas Quarter, which is currently under construction, is a sub-district of the HafenCity in Hamburg and is conceived as the central quarter of the district. The northern part of the quarter has already been opened. On completion, the Overseas Quarter is expected to have around 1,000 apartments and about 1,150 hotel rooms. According to the project developers, over 6,000 jobs will be created.
The support structure of the imposing construction is exposed in part to very high loads on account of the delicate design. The large pressures must be purposefully induced into the adjoining component structure in order to avoid damage such as cracks and spalling.
THE SOLUTION
The central load transfer into the adjoining components and at the same time the absorption of torsion is ensured by the use of the Calenberg S 70 compact bearing. The perforated bearing type Z, which was also used in this building project, was installed in particular in areas where larger movements and enormously high loads occur. These different types of bearing from Calenberg complement each other extremely well and make a sustainable contribution to the building‘s value retention.
