THE EMERGENCE OF A NEW CREATIVE QUARTER
NOISE PROTECTION FOR RESIDENTS DURING SANDBLASTING WORK
THE PROJECT AND ITS REQUIREMENTS
Both the Jutierhalle and the Tonnenhalle were built in 1926 and are set to become the centrepiece of the creative quarter on Leonrodplatz. Following the renovation of the listed buildings, they will offer a home to theatre, design, architecture and media creators. However, the building fabric of the Tonnenhalle has suffered a great deal over the years. The self-supporting steel reinforced concrete structure is no longer stable. Prior to the reconstruction of the delicate concrete components, they will be prepared by blasting. On completion, artists will be given space on three levels to present their creativity in an appealing setting.THE SOLUTION
To ensure stability until completion of the renovation work, the hall is stabilised with support scaffolding from Schäfer Gerüstbau. The loose concrete parts and the rebar corrosion are removed by means of blasting. This kind of work is very noisy. To reduce the noise pollution for the neighbours during the construction period, Cisilent Type L was mounted on the façade scaffolding.
An additional tarpaulin protects Cisilent Type L against rebounding blasting material. Work on the first section is now completed and the noise reduction measures have met the expectations.
THE PRODUCT ADVANTAGES
With a thickness of ≈ 1 cm, Type L weighs only ≈ 3 kg/m²; nevertheless, its sound insulation performance is similar to that offered by Type E. Due to dispensing with absorption capability, Type L is equipped on both sides with a top coating, which makes it insensitive to water and dirt. The unit size has been reduced to improve handling on the scaffolding levels.
