COMPLETE RENOVATION OF THE RIEDBAHN

BALLAST PROTECTION PROVIDED BY CALENBERG’S CIPROTEC 1013 BALLAST MAT

THE PROJECT AND ITS REQUIREMENT

The busy 70-km stretch of the recently upgraded Riedbahn line between Frankfurt and Mannheim is one of the most important transport routes for long-distance, freight and local rail services on the German rail network. The complete renovation included sleepers and ballast, tracks and turnouts, signals and signal boxes, as well as the stations.

The railway line between Lampertheim and Bürstadt/Bobstadt has been completely renewed, including the refurbishment of a level crossing and the construction of a new underpass and noise barriers to reduce disruptions.

THE SOLUTION

The Ciprotec 1013 ballast mat from Calenberg was laid to ensure long-term ballast preservation and to protect the track components. Ciprotec 1013 acts as an elastic intermediate layer on the structure and immediately beneath the ballast bed, extending the service life of the superstructure – a benefit that is particularly important on this heavily used route. Further positive side effects include low maintenance costs, easy installation and improved track stability.
