HIGH-SPEED RAIL LINE HALKALI–ISPARTAKULE

PART OF ONE OF THE LARGEST INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN TURKEY AND EUROPE

The project and its requirement

This new double-track high-speed line, approximately 9 km long, is designed for mixed passenger and freight traffic at a speed of 200 km/h. It forms part of the Halkalı–Kapıkule railway line, which is currently under construction and is intended to connect the rail networks of Asia and Europe, increasing transport capacity and improving line availability. The project also includes the construction of two tunnels, each approximately 7 km long. In one of the two tunnels, the new line is being constructed as ballastless track and passes sensitive areas, including military sites and residential areas.

On-site measurements showed that vibration protection was essential along approximately 3.4 km of the route to protect local residents from noise and ensure a high level of passenger comfort. A continuous Calenberg massspring system was selected, fully meeting the client’s requirements.

The solution

Another major challenge in this project was posed by the transition sections between the mass-spring system and the conventional concrete slab track. Differences in substructure stiffness and uneven settlement behaviour result in high dynamic loads in these areas.

The solution involved the use of various Calenberg products: USM 1000 W, USM 2020, USM 2025 and USM 3000, as well as rail pads and base plate pads. This ensures long-term, effective protection of the track superstructure and sensitive areas, maintains a high level of operational safety and keeps maintenance requirements to a minimum.
