LENBACH GÄRTEN CITY DISTRICT
VIBRATION ISOLATION SOLUTIONS FROM CALENBERG
THE PROJECT AND ITS REQUIREMENTS
This iconic and highly acclaimed new city district comprises several residential buildings, office blocks and the eight-storey, five-star luxury hotel ‘The Charles’, complete with an underground car park. The residential district was named after the famous Munich painter Franz von Lenbach. Near the development, there are the Old Botanical Garden and the main railway station, as well as several underground lines. Measurements have shown that passing trains transmit structure-borne acoustic waves into the ground and neighbouring buildings, which residents, users and hotel guests perceive as vibrations and secondary airborne noise. This unique construction project therefore required precisely tailored measures to meet the very stringent requirements for airborne noise and vibration emissions. This was done to ensure the living comfort and quality of life for all occupants.
THE SOLUTION
Special versions of the Calenberg Cibatur mat served as vibration protection; as they were laid in an area with high groundwater pressure, they were encased in waterproof rubber sheaths. The product has been specially designed for elastic bearing in water depths down to 6 metres. Prior to welding, Cibatur is placed on a rigid plastic plate to protect it against water pressure from below and is covered with an additional blinding layer before the reinforcement is installed.Project-specific granulate mats were used for vertical vibration isolation of the exterior basement walls.
Certain sections of the entire building complex were supported by Cibatur elastic bearings; the tuning frequency of the bearings was around 12.5 Hz. Further measurements revealed that Cibatur continues to meet the high standards to this day.
