HANGZHOU GRAND THEATRE

ELASTIC SEPARATION DUE TO FULL-SURFACE DECOUPLING

THE PROJECT AND ITS REQUIREMENT

The Hangzhou Grand Theatre is located near the river in the new business district of Hangzhou. The building, also known as "a pearl in an oyster shell", impresses architecturally with the moon-shaped volume formed by complex curved glass façades and titanium roof.
An opera hall, a concert hall, a theatre and a nonstop Chinese restaurant on the roof with a view of the open-air amphitheatre and the river are all housed in the building.
The challenge of this project was the minimisation of secondary airborne noise caused by vibrations. The restaurant on the top floor was the main source of the disturbing vibrations, which made it necessary to create a flexible separation between the restaurant and the music area.

THE SOLUTION

For the music venue, it was essential to fulfil the particularly high structure-borne sound insulation requirements. Calenberg solved this problem using the Cibatur elastomeric bearing to comply with the stipulated noise and vibration values. The required values were met and optimum results achieved thanks to the professional full-surface design. Now people can celebrate and enjoy music from classical to modern without any disturbances.
