ELASTIC COMPONENTS FOR TRACK BED CONSTRUCTION

MASS-SPRING SYSTEM (MSS) TRACK BED CONSTRUCTION

Tremors, structure-borne noise and secondary airborne noise occur during railway operation. Mass-spring systems can be used when there are strict requirements for vibration and structure-borne sound control designed to protect people living near railway lines effectively from these immissions. When a mass-spring system (MSS) is used, the mass and rigidity of the track (ballast bed or ballastless track) must be precisely matched to the elastomer element spring rigidity to provide vibration decoupling between the track system and the surrounding area. The elastic support in an MSS can cover the full surface or feature a strip- or point-shaped format, depending on its structure or design type.

An MSS is used where increased requirements exist for structure-borne sound control or in the case of low construction
heights.

Advantages of an MSS
  • Reduction in tremors, structure-borne noise and secondary airborne noise
  • Greater quality of life for residents in surrounding areas
  • Protection of superstructure components
  • Greater travelling comfort
  • Stable track positioning
  • Long service life and low maintenance
  • Protection of adjacent vibration-sensitive structures and buildings

With its USM product range, Calenberg offers effective vibration and structure-borne sound control for this track bed structure type or area of application.

Under Ballast Mats

Under Ballast Mats are suitable as a protective measure against vibrations and structure-borne noise transmission caused by passing trains. Under Ballast Mats are laid directly beneath the ballast bed to provide elastic decoupling plus protection for track components. In addition to protecting the ballast, a further criterion for use is the protection of sensitive sealing layers from damage by ballast stones and the permanently high efficacy of mats.

The following requirements can be met with the use of Under Ballast Mats:
  • Reduction in vibration and structure-borne sound immissions
  • Stabilisation of track structures
  • Ballast protection
  • Reduction in the dynamic wheel forces
  • Reduction in track maintenance costs
  • Long service life and simple installation
  • No replacement necessary over the track bed structure’s entire service life

With its Ciprotec product ranges, Calenberg offers effective vibration and structure-borne sound control for this bed structure type or area of application.
